A new theatrical anime film based on Leiji Matsumoto‘s Galaxy Express 999 has officially been announced. The project features Rintaro as the original story concept creator, while Toei Animation is in charge of the animation production.
Originally serialized by Leiji Matsumoto from 1977 to 1981, Galaxy Express 999 was later adapted into a TV anime and several animated films, becoming one of Japan’s most iconic sci-fi franchises.
The story follows Tetsuro, a young boy who boards the Galaxy Express 999 in search of the Immortal Planet, where he hopes to obtain a robotic body and achieve eternal life.
