Makiburo’s novel Within the Villainess will receive a TV anime adaptation scheduled to air in 2027. Along with the announcement, the production team revealed the teaser visual, teaser promotional video, and main cast information.
The series will also appear at AnimeJapan 2026, which will take place at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo on March 28 and 29. Postcards featuring the teaser visual will be distributed at both the Kadokawa booth and the Infinite booth. The Infinite booth will additionally host an exhibition related to the series and offer exclusive merchandise.

Makiburo originally self-published the story, known in Japan as Akuyaku Reijo no Naka no Hito, on the web novel platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō in May 2020. The publisher Ichijinsha later began releasing the series in print in February 2021.
A manga adaptation illustrated by Nazuna Shiraumi was serialized in Comic Lake from November 2021 until May 2025. The sixth volume is scheduled to be released on June 25.
The story of Within the Villainess is described as follows:
After losing her life in an accident, Emi is reincarnated as a young noble girl named Remilia Rose Graupner.
Remilia is the most feared villainess in a certain otome game, and Emi’s beloved “fave”.
Moved by the loneliness that once left the original Remilia with nothing but resentment toward the world, Emi resolves to make her happy with her own hands. Through tireless effort and her natural kindness, she gradually brings to those around her.
However, the game’s “original” heroine will not allow it.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t make you happy… Remilia… -tan…”
Betrayed by those she trusted and unable to escape the game’s inevitable condemnation event, Emi—within Remilia—loses consciousness in the depths of despair.

Rising with a quiet fury is Remilia, who has regained control of her body for the first time in 11 years.
