Hideaki Sorachi’s “Dandelion” Gets TV Anime Adaptation

The work? Tracking down Earthbound souls and laying them to rest.

Hideaki Sorachi’s debut one-shot Dandelion is being adapted into a Netflix anime series, set for exclusive worldwide release in April. The role of Tetsuo Tanba will be voiced by Chikahiro Kobayashi, while Misaki Kurogane will be played by Megumi Han.

The animation production is handled by NAZ, and the series will consist of seven episodes. This adaptation expands on the original story, adding new elements and exploring the previously untold past of Tanba and Kurogane.

Originally, Dandelion received an honorable mention at the 71st Tenkaichi Manga Awards hosted by Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) in 2002. The one-shot was later included in the first volume of Gintama.

Netflix describes the story:

Dandelion follows Tetsuo Tanba and Misaki Kurogane, members of the Japanese Angel Federation’s Send-Off Department. Their job? Tracking down restless earthbound spirits and gently guiding them to the afterlife.

While other angels rush to close their cases, the 21st Division’s Dandelion Clan takes a different approach. Dandelion members Tetsuo Tanba and his leader, Misaki Kurogane, listen to each spirit’s regrets and help them resolve what’s holding them back. They even help a spirit who’s an elderly man running at full speed, desperate to escape.

The angels themselves are full of surprises. Tanba’s permanent scowl and sharp tongue mask a deeply compassionate nature, while Kurogane is a formidable force — despite her girlish appearance. She’s rumored to have laid to rest the legendary soul of Musashi Miyamoto.
