Filming Begins on Live-Action “The Legend of Zelda” as First Stills Are Revealed

Nintendo has confirmed that filming for the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has officially begun, sharing the update through its Nintendo Today app. Alongside the announcement, the company released the first in-costume stills from the production, offering a close look at Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Evan Ainsworth as Link.

The images include a tight portrait of Bragason’s Zelda, a wide shot featuring both heroes together, and a detailed look at Ainsworth in full Link attire.

A live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is officially in the works and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 7, 2027. The movie will be directed by Wes Ball, best known for directing The Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

On the gaming side, the most recent Zelda title to arrive on Nintendo Switch is The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Meanwhile, the latest entry in the Hyrule Warriors Musou spinoff series, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, recently launched on the Nintendo Switch 2.
