The upcoming anime adaptation of Motoei Shinzawa’s comedy manga High School! Kimengumi has announced new cast members, including Yusuke Kobayashi as Undo Kai. The character’s name is a pun on the Japanese term for “Sports Festival”. The anime is set to premiere in January 2026 in the noitaminA block.

High School! Kimengumi is the sequel to Shinzawa‘s manga Sannen Kimengumi (“Third Year Funny-face Club”). The original series ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1980 to 1982, followed by High School! Kimengumi from 1982 to 1987. Its anime adaptation aired 86 episodes between October 1985 and September 1987, starting with a few stories from the first manga.
The story follows the five eccentric members of Kimen-gumi: Rei, Go, Kiyoshi, Jin, and Dai, students at Ichiou Junior High. When transfer student Yui and her classmate Chie take an interest in their odd antics, unexpected friendships begin to form.
