Kagurabachi Manga Slices Into Reality with New York Times Feature

"Hey Bro, this is KAGURABACHI"

Takeru Hokazono’s manga Kagurabachi marked its second anniversary with a bold appearance in the October 6 issue of The New York Times International Edition. The full-page ad shows protagonist Chihiro, accompanied by the line, “Hey Bro, this is KAGURABACHI.”

The manga’s official website, launched on October 3, also revealed a version of the page without Chihiro, highlighting a mock newspaper filled with Kagurabachi-themed articles. Among them are features on the cover and color spread from Weekly Shonen Jump’s Issue #45 and other tributes to the series.

Since its debut in September 2023, Kagurabachi has evolved from a viral meme sensation to a critical success ranking 7th in the “Manga We Want to See Animated 2024” poll and winning 1st place in the Next Manga Awards 2024 (Print Manga category).

MANGA plus publishes the manga in English and describes it as follows:

Young Chihiro spends his days training under his famous swordsmith father. One day he hopes to become a great sword-maker himself. The goofy father and the serious son–they thought these days would last forever. But suddenly, tragedy strikes. A dark day soaked in blood. Chihiro and his blade now live only for revenge. Epic sword battle action!
