The official X/Twitter account for The Exhibition of The World of Shirow Masamune – “THE GHOST IN THE SHELL” and The Path of Creation recently unveiled a special tribute illustration by Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo.
The tribute illustration made its public debut at the exhibition’s current Osaka venue, hosted at Shinsaibashi PARCO, which opened on September 5 (JST) and will run until October 5 (JST).
Previously, the large-scale exhibition was held in Tokyo from April to August. Billed as the first major retrospective of Masamune Shirow’s work.
The project was first announced in May 2023, coinciding with the reveal of a new THE GHOST IN THE SHELL anime adaptation currently in production at Science SARU.

Director Mokochan, known for serving as assistant director on the TV anime DAN DA DAN and contributing to Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim Takes Off as well as the acclaimed anime The Heike Story, takes the helm for the first time in their directorial debut.
Since Masamune Shirow published the original “Ghost in the Shell” comic in 1989 in “YOUNG MAGAZINE” (Kodansha), the series has continued to captivate and inspire audiences worldwide through various adaptations, including Mamoru Oshii‘s 1995 film “GHOST IN THE SHELL,” multiple anime series, and a Hollywood live-action film.
