That amazing story I read four years ago—the first volume of the original novel that moved me so deeply—finally hit big and got an anime adaptation. So there I was, watching episode one with a huge, goofy grin… only to realize they’d completely skipped the entire first volume!?
I just froze.
“…Wait, is this gonna be okay? Will viewers really get the relationship between these two?”
I started watching from this overly protective fan perspective—but then, precisely because of that big cut, the episode was absolutely packed with subtle hints and implications. It was a full-on “they’re teasing us!” parade.
And honestly? That made it even better.
Their expressions, their voices, their dialogue—all of it quietly reveals the bond between them.
And because nothing is stated outright, the imagination runs wild. So, so wild.
By the time the first episode ended, I was fully hooked, practically shouting, “They’re teasing us again!!”
It’s an anime that invites you to read deeply into the relationship between “the investigator who hates robots” and “the mysterious, snarky robot” she’s paired with.
Maybe those who haven’t read the original will actually enjoy all the subtext and teasing even more.
And if you go back and read volume one after watching, you might be hit with a whole new wave of emotion.
Okay, okay—I admit, I’m totally obsessed with their relationship, so this comment got pretty biased.
But don’t worry—there’s plenty more to love here: the neural scan scenes, the richly detailed sci-fi world, the ethical questions around AI… it’s got it all!

Official synopsis:
