STUDIO4°C’s ChaO Anime Movie Shares Main Trailer & Poster Visual

GKIDS acquires North American rights.

The main trailer and poster visual for STUDIO4°C’s upcoming anime film ChaO have been officially unveiled. The film’s theme song, titled “ChaO!”, was written by renowned J-pop artist Kumi Koda. The film is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on August 15, 2025, following its world premiere next week at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

GKIDS has officially acquired the North American distribution rights to ChaO, the latest film from renowned Japanese animation STUDIO4°C. More details on the release schedule will be announced soon.

Annecy Festival describes the film as follows: 

In a near-future world where humans and mermen coexist, Stephen, a shipping engineer in Shanghai, develops a propeller called Air Jet that is harmless for marine life to promote peace between the two races. When Chao, a mermaid princess, pushes Stephen to marry her, their two worlds collide. As they struggle with their cultural differences, a tragic accident creates a bigger strain on their relationship.
