When asked to describe their musical style, guitarist Motifour Kida explains, “Our band doesn’t limit itself to a single musical genre. We respect each member’s musical inspirations and blend them together”.

Before you read the full interview, you can listen to “Call”:

AnimeTV: Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?

Ikkyu Nakajima: tricot is a rock band that was formed in the Kansai region of Japan. Each member is also active in various projects outside of tricot.

How would you describe your musical style?

Motifour Kida: Our band doesn’t limit itself to a single musical genre. We respect each member’s musical inspirations and blend them together.

Did you see getting into anime music when you started?

Hiromi Hirohiro: We didn’t specifically intend to.

How did the You Are Ms. Servant anime collab go?

Yusuke Yoshida: I’d already read the manga it was based on, so it was nice to write the song knowing the characters’ personalities.

Can you tell us about the concept behind the song “Call”?

Ikkyu Nakajima: We wrote this song for the anime, “You Are Ms. Servant.” Just like the story in the anime, it depicts the conflicts of a former assassin who ends up working as a maid in a normal household—an unusual situation. Even if you’re not a former assassin, I think some parts are relatable since we all grow up in environments special to us. tricot’s music itself is often seen as “unusual”, which I think made it a perfect fit for us as well.

How did you go about writing the music for “Call”?

Motifour Kida: We based it on our impressions of the manga–which is the basis for the anime–and worked to seamlessly merge the anime’s take on the world with tricot’s music sense.

Which artists do you draw the most inspiration from?

Ikkyu Nakajima: Sheena Ringo / System Of A Down / Morning Musume.
Motifour Kida: Sheena Ringo
Hiromi Hirohiro: NUMBER GIRL
Yusuke Yoshida: Sheena Ringo

Who would be your dream artist to collaborate with?

Ikkyu Nakajima: Eminem / kep1er
Motifour Kida: XG / Hisako Tabuchi
Hiromi Hirohiro: Jay Som
Yusuke Yoshida: Jacob Collier

Do you have any last message you would like to spread to your fans around the world?

Ikkyu Nakajima: We want to keep creating ‘unusual’ music, honing our craft, and continue surprising and moving people with our songs. We can’t wait to see you all again.
